Among the great composers of classical modernism, Béla Bartók undoubtedly made the most significant contributions to violin chamber music. Latvian-Armenian violinist Georg Sarkisjan and Australian pianist James Maddox present two major works from this repertoire. These pieces highlight Bartók’s masterful fusion of folk music and modern compositional techniques. The program is rounded off by the Piano Sonata, Bartók’s only contribution to this genre, which complements his otherwise extensive body of piano works. Together, the concert offers a profound insight into Bartók’s distinctive musical language.
