The unique melancholy of the viola’s sound cannot be achieved with either the violin or the cello. The concertante works by Walton and Britten from Great Britain are two exceptionally beautiful repertoire pieces for this instrument. Tatjana Masurenko, one of the most renowned violists of our time, has recorded these two works in her third album for Coviello, whereby in the case of Walton she has been able to draw on a new critical edition of this important work that has been freed of glaring errors.
