Cultural sponsorship
As early as the 16th century, successful entrepreneurs liked to adorn themselves with cultural sponsorship: the Fuggers employed music teachers, composers and virtuosos in their service; some important music collections owe their existence to them. The polyphonic recorder consort was particularly popular in their day. The Fuggers repeatedly ordered works for it from the famous composers of their time. The Consort B-Five, with internationally renowned soloists, brings to life this Renaissance splendor as it was loved by the wealthy citizens, not only in Augsburg.
