Luigi Boccherini’s six sonatas for violoncello and bass, published in London around 1770/1775, are technically quite demanding pieces. The baroque cellist Dmitri Dichtiar makes it clear that these are not only effective virtuoso pieces, but rather chamber music jewels, which are characterized not least by a melody rich in affect and ornamentation.
