Mozart’s “Divertimento” is one of the master’s marvels, evidently composed without any specific occasion. The Trio Echnaton joins the illustrious circle of string trios that have taken on this pinnacle of the chamber music repertoire. Inspired by the Trio Echnaton’s performance, Volker David Kirchner composed his own work in the genre, which was premiered by the ensemble in 2002. Free from the dictates of modernism, Kirchner, an orchestral and quartet violist, consistently produces idiomatic works of string chamber music.
