Between Dungeon and Crown
Jan Václav Stich was one of the greatest horn virtuosos of the early 1800s – and he led a rather eventful life: he fled serfdom and had to hide from his pursuers – which is why he ‘Italianised’ his name as a disguise. The horn was always at the heart of his work as a soloist, conductor, arranger and teacher. One of his pupils was Johannes Amon, who likewise translated his love of the French horn into his own compositions, which in turn inspired Johann Michael Mettenleiter. Particularly appealing is the combination with the transverse flute and strings, which the Compagnia di Punto presents on its new CD in three compositions from the circle of its namesake.
