»Süße Melancholie« – im England des 16. und frühen 17. Jahrhunderts war das kein Widerspruch. »Melancholy« galt als edle Geisteshaltung; in milder Abgeklärtheit genoss man den Weltschmerz geradezu. Neben einigen Tanzsätzen spielt das Cellini Consort Fantasien von William Byrd bis Henry Purcell. Es entsteht ein Stimmungsbild jener Zeit, und da ist am Ende dann doch nicht nur Melancholisches dabei.
